ARON JONES
“Aron Jones is a highly experienced airline captain, instructor and CAA FRTOL Senior Examiner based in South Wales. He currently flies as a Captain for Aurigny Air Services on the ATR 72-600, bringing over two decades of operational aviation experience across both commercial and general aviation sectors.
Having flown since 2001, Aron has built experience across a wide range of aircraft types and operational environments. Early in his career, he gained extensive flying experience throughout Europe and North Africa in his own Cessna 172 before moving into the demanding world of parachute operations. There, he operated aircraft including the Cessna Caravan, Turbine Islander and Piston Islander, later becoming a Class Rating Instructor on the Caravan and a British Parachute Association Pilot Examiner, training and mentoring new parachute pilots.
Aron subsequently moved into commercial airline operations with Flybe, initially flying the Dash 8 Q400 as a First Officer before progressing to Captain on both the Q400 and Embraer 195 fleets, operating throughout the UK and Europe. Alongside his flying duties, he also served as a Crew Resource Management Instructor within the Flybe training department and held the position of Pilot Base Manager at the Cardiff base. Following Flybe, Aron operated the Embraer 190 as a Captain for Eastern Airways on KLM-operated routes from Bristol.
In addition to his airline career, Aron remains heavily involved in general aviation instruction. He is a Flying Instructor, Aerobatics Instructor, Tailwheel Instructor and Ground Examiner, with a continued passion for mentoring and guiding students through their aviation training journey. Aron particularly enjoys aerobatic flying and regularly instructs on classic aircraft types, often saying:
“My favourite type of flying is being upside down in the Chipmunk.”
