Do you need an FRTOL?

The Flight Radiotelephony Operator’s Licence is required by anyone who operates an aircraft radio to communicate with aeronautical ground stations. Whether you fly fixed wing, helicopters, microlights, balloons, gliders, or drones, the FRTOL is your gateway to safe, legal airborne communication.

FRTOL Fastrack™

Who is this for? Suitable for all student pilots undergoing a recognised course of pilot training who have had exposure to radio communications during their flight lessons. Ideally, students would have already completed the multiple choice Communications, Air Law and Navigation examinations prior to signing up.

Lifetime access to SRG1171 compliant computer-based training (CBT) platform.
Gap analysis ‘online’ practice practical test with an examiner.
In-person CAA practical test including informal ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 6 Assessment (formal ELP tests for non native English speakers available on request).

FRTOL Course inc. CAA Examinations

Who is this for? For commercial customers that require a more bespoke package to suit their operation. A two day course including Pre course online study material, two days face to face training and all CAA examinations leading to the issue of the CAA FRTOL.

FRTOL Tests (Exam Only)

Who is this for? Candidates who have already completed their studies and are ready to sit the CAA practical test.

Important Requirement: Prior to booking a test, you must have met the pre-test requirements set out in CAP2325, including the completion of mandatory practical test training (SRG1171).
